Tadeusz Kantor
Tadeusz Kantor. Painting. Theatre
The work of Tadeusz Kantor (1915-1990), one of the most prominent 20th-century Polish avantgarde artists, is being presented in Lithuania for the first time. A painter, sculptor, graphic artist, writer, designer of experimental stage designs and happenings, Kantor has also become known as a theatre director and the founder of the world-famous Cricot 2 theatre. The exhibition presents drawings, set design projects, art objects, photographs and film works, from Kantor's earliest works created during his studies at Krakow Academy of Fine Art in the 1930s, to the later ones, which earned him worldwide acclaim (Dead Class, 1975). One model of his unrealised theatrical objects has been reconstructed, and a section dedicated to documentaries about him has been put together especially for this exhibition.
