Portraits of the actors, directors, composers, and
stage designers of the State Russian Drama
Theatre
Algirdas Šeškus (b. 1945) and Alfonsas Budvytis (1949-2003) expanded the territory of the traditional Lithuanian photographic aesthetic in the early 1980s and were the first ones to convey a post-modern view of the world. Known for their progressive ideas, these authors managed to find an innovative approach to the state-commissioned portraits of theatre artists.
Ignoring the conventions of depiction of public figures, they experimented with their models' characters, psychological types, and the composition of the photographs. The series of 60 works was exhibited as an art project in Vilnius in 1985 and in Moscow the following year.
